Is this a good way to keep my bird egg warm?

i have a bird egg i think its a mourning dove and the flashlight went out of batterys and i dont have a incubaitor. the flashlight went out somtime durring the night, is the egg dead? yesterday i heard it pecking. and i am also holding it for warmth. is this good? how can i see if its dead or not?
