Which best describes how the current scientific model of the atom was developed?

Originally, atoms were thought to be the smallest particles, indivisible, so they were thought of as tiny billiard balls. But physics experiments showed that they had charged components, and then we found that the charge we call "positive" was in the center with negatives on the outside. The various models of the atom were revised as time went on and experiments proved that new ideas were needed.
